Celebrate Good Times!

May 4, 2009 at 1:23 PM (Uncategorized)

Since today is my last day of classes, I have appropriately planned a night of celebration. I appreciate good tequila, in fact, I love good tequila. However, not all of my friends enjoy tequila shots like I do. I think I have found the perfect solution. Usually, a lime wedge and some salt with suite me fine. However, Tabasco sauce will also do wonders. I know, it sounds awful, but trust me! Mix a few drops with the tequila and enjoy! The hot sauce tames the tequila and it goes down quite smoothly.

Cheers to the graduates of 2009!

Betty Crocker- A FAKE?

April 28, 2009 at 11:10 PM (Uncategorized)

Check out this video on MSN.com!  Did any of you know Betty Crocker was made up? Apparently some company was getting lots of letters from consumers with baking questions, so they made up Betty Crocker to be the face for all the answers.

I’m stunned! I thought she was an American idol. I feel somewhat let down. 😦

What a busy weekend! We had a great time Friday with friends, and they loved my dessert! I made it’s better than sex. It was scrumptious! Literally, that’s the word my boyfriend used to describe it! HA!

I must admit, my crust didn’t come out as nicely as I had hoped. It was a little too crispy around the edges. CRISP, not burnt! Next time I make this dessert, I think I’m going to cheat and buy a pre-made crust. It will save time and taste much better! I also used skim milk, sugar-free pudding, and fat free cream cheese to make it a tad bit healthier.

I highly recommend this dessert! It is damn good!

Weekend Sweets

April 22, 2009 at 10:22 PM (Uncategorized)

I need some help! My boyfriend is coming home this weekend and we’re having guests for dinner Friday night. We are going to cook out, which is his specialty, so I’m in charge of dessert. Check out these two recipes and let me know which one is your favorite!

This is a recipe I got from my mom. It’s better than sex. No really, that’s what it’s called!

This second recipe is a dump cake. It seems much easier, but my boyfriend isn’t a big fan of cherries.

Any suggestions?

Ruby Slippers

April 19, 2009 at 12:49 AM (Uncategorized)

Well folks, I may have found my new favorite drink! I went to Moonshine, a restaurant on Red River in downtown Austin, tonight. The atmosphere is perfect for family and friends! We had such a great time! The best part of the night was discovering a drink called ‘Ruby Slippers.’ The drink is vodka and grapefruit juice with a floater of champagne. To make it even better, the garnish is a maraschino cherry. It truly makes you feel at home!

Since I’ve been traveling so much lately, I haven’t had time to try any new recipes. Instead, I thought I would give some links to other food blogs that I check out from time to time. Let me know what you think!

The Waspy Redhead is a personal friend of the family. She lives in San Antonio and loves to cook! She updates her blog daily with fun new recipes and quick tips to jazz up any dish.

Food Goat is a comical food blog. The creator has interesting names for all of his family members. He calls himself food goat, and his baby is cleverly called goat spawn. It’s an awesome idea to keep your name private if you don’t want everyone knowing who you are. His recipes aren’t too bad either. His blog is family friendly.

Another site that is not as family oriented, is Cook to Bang. The webmaster of this site uses his cooking to get with women. His dishes all have sexually explicit names and his recipes are filled with sexual innuendos. It’s quite an entertaining read! As an added bonus, his dishes are easy enough that any man can cook them!

I’m totally bummed I haven’t had much time to cook this week. However, hopefully these blogs will give me (and you) some ideas for future recipes! If you have checked out any food blogs you really enjoy, don’t be afraid to leave me the link!

Happy Easter

April 12, 2009 at 2:44 PM (Uncategorized)

Happy Easter everyone! Sadly, I am stuck in Chicago until tomorrow night. My advice to all of you, don’t use Priceline! They messed up my hotel reservation and my flight! I’m not happy!

On a good note, my dad and brother loved my chocolate treat! My dad thinks I should try and be a contestant on the Food Network’s show, Chopped! I don’t think I am that good, but practice makes perfect!

Easter Weekend!

April 9, 2009 at 3:27 PM (Uncategorized)

My family is having a non-traditional Easter weekend. My mom, sister and I will be in Chicago trying to find an apartment for me to move into when I graduate. So my little brother and my dad are going to be home alone. Luckily, my older sister and her husband live just down the road. I thought for Easter, since she will be hosting my dad and brother, I would make her some Easter tea cakes. I have found this recipe and I know my family will love it! They are all fans of chocolate!

It sounds like an easy recipe, but I’m worried I may run into problems when making the chocolate glaze. I’m not even sure what ‘heavy cream’ is! HA! Luckily, my mom will be in the kitchen looking over my shoulder! Wish me luck!

Well, I didn’t get dinner done by 7:30 p.m. like I had hoped. My beau made queso and had drinks chilled so we hung out chatting before I actually got to work. I didn’t follow the recipe exactly, but I added my own special touch. I stuffed my enchiladas with spinach, chicken, black olives, green chilies, hot sauce, cheese, tomatoes and onions. I had planned to make my own sauce, but I didn’t have as much flour as I thought. When I contemplated running to the store, our rumbling tummies urged me to use canned sauce. I was slightly disappointed in myself. I made two types, one with green sauce for the boyfriend and one with a red sour cream sauce for the rest of us. My boyfriend made some Spanish rice and within 15 minutes, our dinner was complete. I have to admit, I was a bit nervous but their ohs and ahhs made me feel good! Since we were eating Mexican food, we all decided it was fitting to end the meal with a tequila shot. Only Patron for us!

One success down, lots more to go! EnchiladasI’m off to a great start!

Tyler Florence’s Chicken Enchiladas

March 30, 2009 at 5:10 PM (Uncategorized)

Chicken enchiladas are one of my favorite dishes. I am trying out this recipe tonight. I have never attempted to make enchiladas before so I’m a bit nervous. My boyfriend and best friend are my test subjects! My boyfriend has already gone grocery shopping to get all of my ingredients. I’m a lucky girl! Hopefully he picked up a bottle of wine too. In my opinion, drinking wine while cooking just makes the food taste better! 🙂 Hopefully it won’t be a late dinner, I don’t get out of class until 6 p.m. If all goes well, I’ll have dinner  on the table by 7:30 p.m. If all goes great, my test subjects will be begging me to make them dinner tomorrow night!

I’ll let you know how it goes! Keep your fingers crossed!
